NOTEPAD: More than 20 years ago, as a young soldier, I traveled to El Paso, Texas to photograph troops training with the New Mexico Army National Guard. It was the first time I had professionally picked up a camera. Riding around the desert in an old Army jeep, I had fun trying to capture soldier images.
